A self-guided wading adventure on the Upper Delaware River.
Come out to Deposit, NY, on Father’s Day weekend for the Juliana’s Trout Camp on the Delaware! It’s prime time for dry fly fishing and we’ve got a comfortable house with a pavilion, fire pit and 150 feet of easy, wadeable riverfront access. That’s right, just walk across the street and step in! We’re staying in the special regs “no-kill” section, within a half mile of the Cannonsville dam release. No matter how hot the day may be, here the water stays quite cool and full of wily trout. The Delaware River is classified by the DEC as a wild-premier trout stream, meaning you’ll have an exceptional wild trout fishing experience with the potential to catch a trophy-sized wild trout.
The house opens Thursday after 4pm. We’ll lay food out so you can drop your gear and recharge. Come relax around the fire or join us fishing right out front. Over the weekend, we’re going to visit the sweet public access spots (Game Lands, Indian Country, Laurel Bank and more) so you will have the knowledge to return any time you like. Friday and Saturday are all about the fishing. Each day after breakfast, we’ll pack a lunch and fish until 3pm or so when we break for an early dinner. By eating and recharging during this slow time, we’ll be ready for uninterrupted fishing through the evening hatch. Believe me, you won’t want to quit if you’re seeing fish rise to swarms of caddis and mayflies!
Speaking of bugs, we suggest some small dry flies (think size 20 sulphurs) to improve your chances of meeting these picky trout. Troutfitter and West Branch Angler are two great fly shops to visit for any last minute gear and to find out what bugs are hatching. You will want fresh 9 or 12-foot leaders (4x) and light (5x) tippet. You won’t need a double-haul, ideally we’ll be casting to rising trout with a sneaky drag-free presentation. Let’s see what we find!
Sunday morning is check-out. We’ll have breakfast and close up the house, but you’re welcome to spend the day on the water as long as you like.
There are just 5 spots available at this riverfront house. One room is double occupancy, the rest are private. There are two shared bathrooms in the house. All meals are included. Feel free to BYOB and food that is important to you - everything else is covered. We’re looking forward to this long weekend getaway, come explore the Upper West Branch with your friends at Trout Camp!
You’ll need: A NYS freshwater fishing license, waders, wading boots, wading staff, net, rain gear, bug spray, polarized glasses, and a head lamp. A 5 or 6 weight rod with 9 or 12 foot long leader(s), tippet, hemostats and nippers will be perfect.
